History: In 1965 the American Nurses Assocation position paper came out, proposing that all licensing of LVN's and LPN's be discontinued.  The LVN's in California vigorously opposed this and they continue to do so at the present, since it has been born out that the LVN's are needed and is a key member of the health team.

The Licensed Vocational Nurses League of California became so big and so much business was being transacted that it was necassy to hire an office staff and setup an offical state office in Los Angeles.  The office under the direction of an Executive Director who also worked closely with the LVNL's Legislative Representative, who keeps the members current on all nursing legislation.

LVNL offered its members an outstanding malpractice insurance plan, group insurance, discount pruchasing, (during that time and period offered) Vocational Nurse job protection through it's Vocational Nurse Action Committee.

In California, there has been a 93% increase in the number of LVNs since 1965.  The majority of LVNs support the career ladder concept of education and continuing education.  LVNs continue to take advantage of the educational opportunities offered in adult education, community college, and in-service training in hospitals.

In 1972, the LVNL celebrated their 19th annual convention in Los Angeles.  This convention was more successful than any other preceding convention.  Outstanding speakers from all areas of the health field and state legislators participated.  Seventy one schools of vocational nursing were represented and LVNs throughout California attended the four day affair, which included an outstanding professioal exhibit area.
